If you’re thinking about a short trip from Marrakech, Zagora is one of the best places to visit, you can enjoy the desert camping just for one night and two days!
1) Departure from Marrakech
We’ll pick you up from a hotel or riad in Marrakech in the morning.
2) Drive through High Atlas Mountains
Enjoy your driving! Steep mountain roads is one of the highlights in Morocco.
3) Visit Ait Ben Haddou
On the way to the desert, stop by at Ait Ben Haddou, the UNECSO World Heritage site. It was a fortified village, Berber people used to live here in residential complex, and this is called “ksar” by local people. Many Hollywood films such as Gladiator or Lawrence of Arabia were shot here.
4) Drive through Draa Valley
On the way to Zagora, please enjoy the spectacular view of Draa Valley. This is the most fascinating area among the valleys in Morocco. And you can find small Berber villages in the oasis, you’d feel like you’re exactly in the center of the timeless traditional world.
5) Camping in the Berber tent
Take a camel at Zagora town and 1 or 2 hours camel trek will take you to the middle of the desert. Enjoy tajine and mint tea, prepared by local people.
6) See the sunrise in the desert
Sleep over in a Berber tent and in the morning, you’ll wake up with the sunrise. Nothing is around you, just the sun and the sand. It’ll be once in your life time experience!
7) Visit Kasbah and Film Studio in Ouarzazate
Get back to the Zagora town by camel and drive onto Ouarazate for your way back. The Ourzazate is a famous town for film shooting, you can visit Atlas Studio to have some idea about it. And in the town, Kasbah Taurirt, a mansion where a local vizier used to live is open to public.
8) Drive back to Marrakech
After Ouarzazate, our car will drive through again in Ouarzazate and take your to your hotel or riad in Marrakech. A long day will be over with a lot of great memories!
